I have been going Green for quite a while. Last week-end I decided to make my own All Purpose Cleaning solution. Naturally I googled “non-toxic cleaning products” and found any number of sites and recipes. I think DIY is a good place to start. I read the directions…………borax, what is that? Washing soda!!? I know what baking soda is but I sure never heard of washing soda. Guess what? You can buy them both from your local grocery store. I went to Trader Joe’s and Smart & Final and bought the rest of my ingredients (I already had essential oils) and following this recipe I made the best smelling and effective cleaner. Plus’s include: reduces indoor air pollution and boosts better air quality; pennies compared to what you pay for your favorite cleaner; reduces your carbon footprint; smells better; works better. Here is their easy recipe:
Make It!
2 teaspoons borax
1 teaspoon washing soda (not baking soda)
2 cups Hot water
4 Tablespoons vinegar
½ teaspoon natural liquid soap (I used Dr. Bronner's Pure Castille Peppermint Soap from Trader Joes’)
¼ teaspoon tea tree oil
8 drops rosemary oil
8 drops tangerine oil
8 drops lavender oil
Dissolve borax and washing soda into 2 cups of very hot water and funnel it into a 1-quart spray bottle Add the rest of the ingredients and shake to blend.
*Now I will tell you that I didn’t have rosemary or tangerine oils but I did have lavender and lemon. Choose the fragrances that you enjoy!
