The Home Energy Score is similar to a vehicle’s mile-per-gallon rating. The Score allows homeowners to compare their homes energy performance to other homes nationwide. It also provides you with suggestions for improving the efficiency of your home or rental property. In January of 2014 the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) released their first major update to the Scoring Tool which will allow inefficient homes to more easily move up the scale with efficiency improvements.
